Violent Virgin (1969) and Daydream (1964)
These are the two films I really want to see. The first is Daydream (1964) by Tetsuji Takechi, the renown director of Japanese "pink" cinema:
the other is Violent Virgin (Shojo geba-geba 処女ゲバゲバ)(1969) by another great director Wakamatsu Koji ( 若松 孝二 ):

Your Day is My Night by Lynne Sachs
Yesterday at the library (Chatham Square branch in Chinatown) i saw this wonderful screening and performance by real Chinese immigrants who actually experience shiftbeds in every day life.
A shiftbed is shared by different people: one sleeps on it during day time, the other(s) at night. People share rooms and beds to save money, to avoid solitude, to compensate for the lack of family relationships. I used to live with roommates and could not even picture myself living alone, no matter how destructive the relationship was. I wanted to relate.
I also know that many immigrants, who come here to make money, work hard and live in poverty in order to support their families abroad. Those are all very touching stories.
My attitude has changed after the screening. I always felt as a stranger in Chinatown, although love this place more than any other neighborhood in NYC. After watching this film, i feel i can understand the place and people more than before, love it and relate to it. I saw how modest those women were who agreed to reenact their everyday routine.

Я предпочитаю думать о своем видео творчестве как о чем то совершенно бесполезном. В чем нет никакой практической цели, никакого применения: я не меняю мир к лучшему, я не конструирую новые смыслы, категории, аллегории, символы, в моих видео нет идеологии, протеста, дидактики, или теории, они ни к чему не применимы. Их существование не оправдано.
Я думаю о своих фильмах как о стихах, как о состоянии души, эмоциях, настроении. И это все. Я договариваюсь с друзьями, тащу свою огромную камеру, снимаю два-три дня, монтирую два-три месяца - и все только для того, чтобы передать некую мимолетную эмоцию, душевный порыв, состояние очарования, тишины, грусти, веселья, поиск, остановку, задумчивость, непонятное неуловимое тихое громкое... Иногда приходиться пережить бурю, чтобы написать пару строк, или снять 1-3 минутное видео.
Когда-то я писала стихи на русском языке, писала для себя и не могла не писать. Меня переполняли эмоции: я в первый раз полюбила, в первый раз приехала в чужую страну, в первый раз осталась одна, в пустоте. Все это было внове, требовало решений, выхода, осмысления, парадигмы. Грусть и одиночество были полны, и я не могла не писать о себе и обо всем.
Я написала все свои стихи, поймала и описала, обратила в слова и образы свои первые незнакомые эмоции, поиски и потрясения. Отразила, осмыслила, изрекла, воплотила. Дело было сделано, период завершен, больше стихов я не писала. Хотела, пыхтела, но ничего достойного более не родилось.
В какой-то момент я прониклась и очаровалаcь стихотворением Цветаевой "Большими тихими дорогами..." Я не понимаю о чем оно. Для меня этот стих подобeн магии, заклинанию. Неосмысляемая красота, гипноз, мой секрет: многие любят МЦ, читают ее поэзию, знают наизусть, но проходят мимо этого стихотворения. А я его открыла, обнаружила, воплотила по-своему. Решила снять видео и мне тут же попалась актриса - хрупкая, потерянная, не от мира сего, вся какая-то убывающая, уходящая. Как муза... почему-то я решила, что Оля идеально подойдет. Получился фильм: лучшее после стихов.
Потом еще несколько... как стихи, ни о чем. Я могу их держать в руке как камушки, перебирать, играть ими. Так приятно думать, что они не нужны, что можно особо не вникать, не конспектировать как доклад о судьбе мира, a можно улететь, задуматься о своем. Отчасти я была вдохновлена сценой из фильма Тарковского 'Солярис'. Бертон едет по хайвей где-то в Японии, по тoннелям, мостам, эстакадам, едет очень долго и однообразно, звук машины, звук дороги [1]. Это гениальная сцена. Мои представления об искусстве вышли оттуда. Гипноз, магия, улет, сюрреалистический сон, исчезновение грани между явью и тем, другим сосотоянием.
Если бы я могла сделать 60-ти минутный фильм ни о чем, что-то в стиле Яна Шванкмайера, Веры Чутиловой, Мишеля Гондри, но совершенно ни о чем... Приключение во сне, что-то, что мне действительно приснилось, переплести, свить, очаровать, воплотить бессвязные образы, полуидеи, обрывки, сказки и сны... я бы была счастлива.

Shohei Imamura
I got this book from the library and actually liked it, despite bad reviews on amazon. Shohei Imamura (Cinematheque Ontario Monographs) [Paperback] edited by James Quandt:
The book is a collection of articles - some of them translated from French - about Shohei Imamura's style, themes, career, etc. It was very informative since it was my first source of getting acquainted with this great director. I loved The Ballad of Narayama (1983), Black Rain (1989), The Insect Woman (1963), Pigs and Battleships (1961) and will surely watch the rest of his films.

movie in its journey into the unconscious. It began with a discovery of

cluster of candy coloured houses in the shadow of two giant radio towers and
beyond them, the Polka Dot Theater. All abandoned and overgrown. I imagined
characters whose particular sensitive mental state would allow them to hear
sounds inaudible to our waking ears, sounds that still, in some unknown
wavelength, reverberated from the radio towers, sounds of other vanished
inhabitants of this world.¹

Finally I saw this film! It is available on youtube in German. Awesome, grotesque, freaky, futuristic, with good wins over evil. I loved the mise-en-scène commercials with wrist cutters, harakiri, and police enrollment.

ANOTHER EXPERIMENT BY WOMEN FILM FESTIVAL GIVES WOMEN’S WORK A REAL TIME & SPACE IN NYC!
AXWFF promotes and screens women’s experimental films that feature alternative forms and represent themes and issues distinct to women and girls, with the hope to inspire others to make and hone their own experimental work to be shared in a public forum.
The festival is now in its 3rd year and, in addition to the official Festival Events, continues to screen exceptional works throughout the year through The NewFilmmakers Series at ANTHOLOGY FILM ARCHIVES, 32 Second Avenue (at 2nd street), New York, NY.
Our next screening will take place on May 23 at 7:30 pm (admission $6). We will screen films by Ann Deborah Levy, Astrid Busch, Ann Steuernagel, Lori Felker, Kyja Kristjana, and Kate Balsley.
