Last Friday I saw this wonderful film 'Plates' by Gary Goldberg at Millennium Film Workshop and totally loved it. The characters were weird, but funny, there was almost no story, but a situation: one serves plates to the other, the other misbehaves. One acts as shy, polite, and friendly, the other mischievous, capricious, assertive and even dominant. The set up: table in the middle of the scene and two actors on both corners reminded me of some Jan Švankmajer's scenes.
The copy of the film I saw was much worse than on this picture. It was a transfer from an old VHS to DVD.
His films were preserved by many galleries and Millennium is one of them. This is an ad from a November 1990 issue of New Yorker:
And this is Goldberg's script for 'Plates'
There is very little information about Goldberg online:
A great overview of GG's films:
