Tableau Vivant

Cindy Sherman's exhibit opens at MoMA on Feb 26, 2012. I absolutely love her photographs or rather "tableaus and characters". I researched on what tableau and tableau vivant are and it looks like a really cool thing. Just recently I have been contemplating a video performance in this style not even knowing the real term for it.

Tableau Vivant is "living picture". The term describes a group of suitably costumed actors or artist's models, carefully posed and often theatrically lit. Throughout the duration of the display, the people shown do not speak or move. The approach thus marries the art forms of the stage with those of painting/photography, and as such it has been of interest to modern photographers.

Great videos I discovered on youtube:

Olga Desmond

Olga Desmond: "I purposely set a high admission charge for my shows so that the street would not get in, for it has little understanding of pure art, but so that people with broader demands for it would come, people who will look on me as a servitor of art."
